In KZN, we may not boast "official" Naturist resorts or beaches, but that doesn't cramp our style! We've got a bunch of Naturist-friendly spots that we wholeheartedly recommend. As part of the KZNNA community, we've established a cool setup where we make block bookings at major resorts—ones that truly embody the Naturist spirit and meet all the criteria. We're all about that easygoing, friendly atmosphere, and we've got four fantastic events lined up each year, usually during the summer vibes. These events are our time to shine, bringing together like-minded individuals in spots that truly understand and embrace the essence of Naturism. So, if you're in for some sun-soaked, community-filled adventures right here in KZN, join us for good times, great resorts, and a Naturist experience that's nothing short of awesome. ☀️🌴🎉
LUXURIOUS OUTDOORS EXPERIENCE
This resort is a favorite amongst our members, and we have a members only event at least once a year here. Let me tell you about Kingfisher Lakeside Retreat, a little slice of heaven down on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. You’ll find it in the charming village of Trafalgar, perched right by the newly spruced-up Black Lake. It’s like our secret spot, right on the edge of the Mpenjati Nature Reserve, and just a breezy 5-minute stroll to a pure, untouched nude beach.
Kingfisher Lakeside Retreat is all about that fancy, outdoor vibe, with cozy glamping-tents and cottages that are next-level comfortable. It’s for the folks who want the best of both worlds – camping’s freedom and nature’s embrace, all mixed with the ease of top-notch self-catering setups.
By the way, we KZNNA pays these guys a visit regularly, so why not come hang out with us? 🌿🏕️🌞

Happy days!
Hey naked friends, just a quick word about naturist beaches in KwaZulu-Natal.
At the moment, none of the beaches in KZN are officially designated naturist beaches. That means while some places, like the stretch north of the Mpenjati lagoon mouth, are naturist-friendly and often tolerated, they’re not legally recognized.
To keep things simple and safe, try to avoid beaches that fall inside municipalities, as local by-laws still prohibit public nudity. You’ll have less legal risk and more peace of mind if you go to quiet, remote beaches inside our public parks or nature reserves. If there’s no one around — there’s nobody to disturb you.
We’re working hard to get a legal naturist beach established in South Africa, but the legal framework is still our biggest challenge. Until then, let’s keep naturism respectful, positive, and free-spirited.
A few gentle reminders:
-Be discreet and respectful of others.
-If someone asks you to cover up, please do so politely and leave — no need for conflict. Stay calm, friendly, and avoid trouble as far as possible.
-Bring your own essentials — most naturist-friendly spots have no lifeguards, shops, or facilities.
-Leave nothing behind but footprints.
-Do your bit for nature
Take a black bag along and pick up some plastic or litter while you’re there. Leave the beach better than you found it — every little bit helps.
If we all do our part, we can create beautiful, naturist-friendly spaces that are welcoming for people and healthy for nature to flourish.
Enjoy the freedom, respect the space, and keep naturism natural. 💚😎🏖️🌊
If you’re heading south on the N2 from Durban, keep going past San-Lameer and Trafalgar. Look out for the signage marked “Mpenjati North”, continue on the highway, cross the bridge. You should now reach Palm Beach, and just after that, take the turnoff marked “Mpenjati South.” This route will lead you towards the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Mpenjati Nature Reserve entrance. You can park on the Nothern bank if you want to, however the trail to the beach got washed away during high seas in 2025.
Before your visit, it’s a good idea to check the current tariff fees on the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife website
as entry rates can change from time to time.
Once you’ve parked, make your way down to the beach and start walking north. You’ll soon come to the lagoon mouth—cross it carefully (best done at low tide). About 30 meters beyond the mouth, you’ll notice some rock formations; from that point up to the next inlet near Kingfisher Lakeside Retreat, the stretch of around 300 meters of shoreline is (unmarked) known as the Mpenjati Naturist/nude Beach.
On clear sunny days, you’ll usually find a handful of friendly naturists soaking up the sun, enjoying a swim, or taking a leisurely walk along the sand.
The beach itself is broad, flat, and generally calm, with gentle waves most of the time—perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply enjoying nature as you are. 🌞
A few important notes:
Like most beaches in KwaZulu-Natal, this is not an officially designated naturist beach, but naturism is tolerated and well-established in this section.
There are no amenities such as ablution blocks, showers, or food stalls nearby, so come prepared with water, snacks, sunscreen, and whatever else you may need.
No lifeguards are on duty, and there’s no shark safety gear in this area, so please swim with caution and always be aware of the sea conditions.
Mpenjati is one of those rare coastal spots that truly embody the freedom and simplicity of naturism — where sun, sand, and sea come together beautifully. Just respect the environment, keep it clean, and greet your fellow beachgoers with a smile. 😎🏖️🌊

After many years of damage and neglect, the eThekwini Municipality, together with the uMhlanga Improvement Project, KZNNA, the Litterboom project and local community, has done an incredible job restoring Uhlanga Lagoon Beach. The area is looking beautiful again — cleaner, safer, and full of new life.
We at KZNNA also do yearly beach clean-ups here to help nature recover and to show that naturists care deeply about our environment. 🌊💚
Our hope is to see nature, humanity, and naturism slowly return to this special spot — with respect, balance, and freedom. So please, get involved and lend a hand! (non- naturist volunteers are welcome, as this is one of our clothed events un July and/ or August).
👉 In September, we’ll be hosting our yearly Nude Beach Games at uMhlanga Lagoon — a fun, friendly day celebrating nature, body freedom, and community spirit.
Join our club to take part and stay updated on events. Together, we can bring life and naturism back to the Lagoon. 🌞🌴

Tucked away inside the iSimangaliso Wetland Park near Sodwana Bay, 9 Mile Beach is one of those hidden gems that feels like your own private slice of paradise. It’s wild, quiet, and completely untouched—just endless golden sand, rolling dunes, and the sound of waves crashing on the shore. If you’re looking for real peace and freedom, this is the spot to switch off, strip down, and forget about the rest of the world for a while.
It’s so remote that you can walk 10 km north or south without bumping into anyone. Now and then you might see a fisherman or two, or a dive boat far out at sea—but they’re usually too far to care. Funny thing is, the few people you do see are often already naked themselves! Out here, clothing rules just fade away naturally.
Camping is wild and simple—no shops, no electricity, and no cellphone signal once you’re behind the dunes. Bring water, food, and everything you need, then just relax and enjoy the calm. Leave nothing behind except your footprints and that happy, sun-warmed feeling that only true freedom brings. Required a High ground clearance 2x4 with diff-lock or 4x4. The road has tight twists and turns in so best would be without a trailer. Also be careful for stuff like rooftop tents as the forest canopy comes down low.
Best times to camp here is in the off season, May-September. The weather is always warm this side of KZN and it is the dry season then. Also there is less chance you would have textiles invading your tranquility. There is no gates or entry points, although a park permit can be obtained from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife in Sodwana to be on the safe side.

KwaZulu-Natal’s coastline is filled with wild, untouched beaches where you can truly reconnect with nature — and yourself. These aren’t official naturist beaches (except Mpenjati), but their remoteness and natural beauty make them perfect for enjoying the simple freedom of being clothes-free in nature. Always be respectful, discreet, and eco-friendly — and leave each place cleaner than you found it.
1️⃣ St Lucia – Walk North from Jabula Beach
📍 Start Point: Jabula Beach, St Lucia
From Jabula Beach, walk north towards Mission Rocks. Once you notice dune figs growing on the dunes and there are no more people around — that’s the KZN naturist signal that you’ve reached a peaceful, private stretch. The further you go, the quieter it becomes, until it’s just you, the waves, and the sun.

2️⃣ Mission Rocks Cove – St Lucia
📍 Start Point: Mission Rocks Parking Area
From the parking area, walk south along the rocks for about 3–4 km until the sand opens up again — that’s where you’ll find this hidden little cove. It’s remote, wild, and incredibly beautiful. Fishermen might pass through occasionally, but most of the time you’ll have it all to yourself.

3️⃣ Amatikulu Nature Reserve (North Section)
📍 Start Point: Boysen’s Fishing Camp, Dokodweni
From the small coastal village of Dokodweni, walk towards the mouth of the Amatikulu River. If it’s passable, continue another 2 km along the beach until the Casuarina trees appear — that’s where the quiet naturist section begins. Once a year, KZNNA hosts a naturist weekend nearby, where members paddle or wade across the lagoon to enjoy the day together.

5️⃣ Bikini Beach – Bivane Dam Nature Reserve
📍 Location: Bivane Dam Private Nature Reserve, near Vryheid
If you’re looking for a proper naturist getaway away from the coast, this is it. Hidden deep in the Bivane Dam Private Nature Reserve, Bikini Beach sits on the banks of the Manzana River — a quiet, wild, and peaceful spot where clothes quickly become optional (and soon forgotten altogether). You’ll need a 4x4 with locking differentials in the wet season to get there, but the effort is worth it. The campsite has a rustic charm that’s hard to beat: a two-story open lapa with a braai and camp kitchen below, an outdoor donkey-boiler shower, and a cozy sleeping area upstairs. (You might want to pitch a dome tent though — the bats share the space at night!)
The sound of the river flowing over rocks mixes with the distant calls of jackals at dusk, creating the perfect backdrop for a natural, free-spirited retreat. There’s a beautiful swimming hole just below the camp — ideal for cooling off after a long day in the sun. It is quite a favorite spot, so do check with Bivane dam resort for bookings way in advance. No electricity, No cell-signal, close to nature, for you to become part of it.

We know there are many more beautiful, quiet places across KZN — not just on the coast, but inland too — where naturists can enjoy the simple freedom of being close to nature. If you’ve discovered a special spot where you’ve spent time naked in peace (be it a hidden riverbank, forest trail, mountain stream, or quiet stretch of beach), we’d love to hear about it!
